Cleaning The Green Stuff on Window Seal

Hot + Humid = Green Stuff

Have you ever gotten into your vehicle and noticed a green tinge at the bottom of your window on the inside of the rubber seal but outside of the window staring back at you? That ‘green stuff’ is algae and it is alive and can be tough to deal with. The algae thrives in or warm humid environment. You might manage to erase the visible part of the algae with standard all purpose cleaner, but this won’t necessarily kill the root of green stuff. Cleaning the green stuff on window seal for good is not too difficult and will not need any special cleaners or tools.

Before you get started you’ll need:

  • all purpose cleaner
  • sanitizing dilution of bleach and water
  • a soft-bristled brush
  • rubber trim protectant
  • soft cloths

Once you have your supplies, follow these steps:

Let’s start with cleaning the outside trim

  • With the windows up and give them a quick wipe with a soft cloth to remove dust and larger debris
  • Use the soft bristle brush to remove any debris in between the window and the trim
  • Apply a generous spray of all purpose cleaner
  • Use your soft-bristle brush to scrub the soap around the entirety of the trim and get in between the trim and window
  • Wipe away the excess cleaner with a cloth and rinse with warm water.
  • Use a clean, soft cloth to pat dry and let it air dry
  • Apply rubber trim protectant using the directions provided on the packaging

Now to Cleaning Green Stuff on Window Seal

Cleaning The Green Stuff on Window Seal

  • Lower the window to get access to the inside of the trim
  • Spray the all purpose cleaner on the trim and allow it to soak in for a minute or two
  • Use your soft bristle brush to scrub off the green gunk and clean dirt from trim
  • Wipe away the excess cleaner and gunk with a cloth
  • Make a bleach dilution according to the instructions on the bleach packaging
  • Lightly spray the inside seal, then wipe away with a clean cloth
  • Finally, raise the window and clean any leftover gunk from the glass

No More Green Stuff on Window Seal

Just like that, your black rubber seal around your windows should be clean and protected!
